NEWS : Knowledge of the transmission of the characteristics of a species to subsequent generations by inheritance[213]
Charles Darwin, the author of the theory of evolution, has a doctrine which argues that the strongest species, those that can best adapt to the environment, win the battle for existence among living species in nature and society, while those that cannot adapt to the environment due to their weakness disappear. This is called Natural Selection. This theory also raised the problem of how living species could transmit their characteristics to the following generations. Mendel, considered as the father of genetics[214], laid the foundation for the answer to this question in 1865 with his work “Experiments on Plant Hybrids”. In 1958, Joshua Lederberg[215], who received the Nobel Prize in physiology and medicine by putting forward the principle of “transmission of genes”, discovered that bacteria harbour the genes of the first generation.
The materialist mentality, which is devoid of the Islamic religion, attributed this discovery to itself and thought that this was proof that there is no creator of the universe. However, for them to sincerely claim this, shouldn’t they present evidence that there is a command or news to the contrary in Islam? If only they had known…
In order to resolve all questions and to make it clear who is serving what, we have found it appropriate to convey the subject in the light of verses and hadiths and the interpretations of scholars.
“Imam Tabari[216], commenting on the verse, says the following: “Allah (swt) creates man from a drop of water, beautiful or ugly, and arranges him in the form He wills. Abu Rebah narrates that the Messenger of Allah said to him: “The Messenger of Allah asked him.
-What was born?
-O Messenger of Allah, what can be born? Either a son or a daughter.
-Who does he look like?
-O Messenger of Allah, who can he resemble? Either he resembles his father or his mother.
-(Then Rasulullah) Stop here. Do not say that. When the semen is fixed in the womb of the mother, Allah reveals all the genealogical ties between her and Adam. Have you not read the verse in the Book of Allah: “He moulds man as He wills.”[217
The 20th century Islamic scholar, Martyr Sayyid Qutb, in his commentary Fizilal-il Qur’an, explains the verse, “When your Lord brought forth the descendants of the Children of Adam from behind them and made them witnesses against their own souls, saying, ‘Am I not your Lord?’ they said, ‘Yes, O Lord, we bear witness.”[218] “The Holy Qur’an beautifully presents the terrible and vast truth, which is placed in the depths of the world of existence and in the depths of human nature, in this whole, bright, unique and mind-boggling scene. Moreover, he reveals it in this scene about fourteen centuries ago. However, at that time, no one knew anything about the creation of man, his nature, and the truth about it, except a few delusions! Now, after so many centuries have passed since the Qur’an revealed this truth, people are only able to clarify a fraction of these facts and this nature! Now, “science” is stating that the genes, which are the genes that hide all the characteristics of individuals while they are still cells in the human being’s sulb, are the separate registers of three billion people and that they hide the characteristics of all human beings within them. However, these genes do not exceed one cubic centimetre in volume. They can only fill the hole made by a sewing needle. This is such a judgement that if it had been given in the order in which the Qur’an draws it, those who said it would have been accused of insanity and madness that day!”[219]
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (r.a.) that. A person came to the Prophet (s.a.w.) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, I had a son with black skin.” He said: “Do you have camels?” he said. The man said: “Yes.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “What are their colours?” he said. He said: “Red”. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Is there a grey one among them?” he said. He said: “Yes.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Why is it like this?” he said. The man said: “It must have been a vein.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Yes. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “This son of yours has probably suffered from such a vein.”[220]
Our Prophet (PBUH), by giving the example of the colours of camels and saying that one’s offspring may take after their ancestors, clearly stated both the imputation of adultery and the existence of descent centuries ago.
