NAME : Gerard P. Kuiper

NEWS : The sun and the planets were first in the form of a gas mass resembling a cloud. They were formed by splitting from a single substance.

At first, it was thought that the Earth was a fragment of the sun. This idea was invented by astronomer Gerard P. Kuiper, originally from the Netherlands. He surprised the astronomical world with his hypothesis that the most distant planets of the Solar System also contained a family. It was a very basic concept about the behaviour of comets that led Kuiper to the idea that each planet contains a large family, even though the Solar System is located at such great distances. He put forward the thesis that the planets, while in a gaseous mass, began to rotate and cool under the influence of gravity, and then some of the fragments broke off under the influence of this rotation and gravity and began to revolve around the main mass. The broken pieces condensed and became colder due to the coldness of space and the effect of rotation. In the meantime, the Sun condensed enough to give off heat and light, and the hydrogen and helium gases around the broken pieces evaporated. Thus the planets began to take shape. In the Qur’an, starting with the verse “The heavens and the earth were adjacent to each other, but We separated them”, it is reported that the universe became what it is today after the gas stage. The Qur’an informed us about this discovery 1332 years ago.
